Birds All Around!

Mar 2, 2010
Recently, Cheri and I have started going out to look for and watch some of the amazing birds that can be found in Namibia. On our last adventure, we saw a bird that we had never seen before, and managed to take a picture. When we got home we took out our bird book and looked it up. It turns out that we saw a rather rare type of hornbill, the Damara Hornbill (Tockus damarensis). There is another kind of bird that has just come back to the area along with the heavy rains, which is called the Lilac Breasted Roller (Coracias caudata). The coloring is just so beautiful! They have purple chests and the brightest of blue wings. When they fly you see a bright flash of the most brilliant light blue color.

It’s amazing to see how much nature is around you when you start paying attention to all of the different species of birds you can find!
